Edmonton is The Oil Capital of Canada

The capital of Alberta is Edmonton, and it is well know for its thriving music, art community and its scenic river valley. An area with some of the most fertile farmland on the prairies and has metropolitan population of over one million. Edmonton became home to most of Albertas oil industry and subsequent oil boom gave Edmonton new status as the Oil Capital of Canada.

Edmonton is home to North Americas largest shopping and entertainment complex, West Edmonton Mall and the fourth largest in the world. More than just a shopping centre, the Mall has a giant water park, bowling alley, music stage, a man made lake, a skating rink, two mini golf courses, 21 movie theatres, a Vegas style casino and an amusement park with 25 rides and attractions and covers an a area of 570000 square metres. The mall is currently valued at 926 million Canadian dollars it employs more than 23000 people and 22 millions visits come per year and 60000 shoppers daily.

The most popular is the Whyte Avenue where the vibrant population tend to hang out. Bookstores, antiques, trendy clothing boutiques and unique restaurants a proliferation of coffee shops and lively nightlife and a year round farmers market combined make this area one of the most popular shopping districts

Fort Edmontons Park began as a fur trading post and is Canadas largest living museum. Walk around recreations of life in Edmonton as it was in 1846, 1885, 1905, and during the Depression. Learn how a beaver hat is made, see the way children lived on the homestead, get your picture taken in the historical style, and visit an old-fashioned soda fountain.

William Hawrelak Park, is where the Edmonton Heritage Festival and the Symphony Under the Sky are held. It is part of Edmontons group of river valley parks, which form the largest area of urban parkland in North America today.

Once the heart of the town of Strathcona, it fell into disrepair during the middle of the twentieth century. Beginning in the 1970s, a concentrated effort to revive the area through the establishment of a Business Revitalization Zone has produced an area rich with restored historical buildings and pleasant streetscapes. Its proximity to the University of Alberta has led to a high concentration of establishments ranging from restaurants and pubs to trendy clubs while hosting a wide variety of shops during the day. This area also contains two independent movie theatres, the Garneau and Princess theatres, as well as several live theatre, music and in total, there are almost 100 places to eat in Old Strathcona
